BRAND INTENTION
LANIUS mainly uses materials that are certified and regulated by the IMO (Institut für Marktökologie: The Institute for Market Ecology). The materials include organic cotton, organic hemp, organic denim, organic silk and organic linen. LANIUS promotes animal welfare by opposing current methods used in Australia for producing merino wool. LANIUS produces products that are predominantly mulesing-free and 100% merino.
Responsible working practices form an integral part of the Cologne-based label’s brand philosophy since its inception in 1999. For LANIUS, social responsibility means that production orders are awarded only to companies that offer fair working conditions and good social standards for employees.
Environmentally friendly methods of production, fair trade, style and quality: LANIUS endeavours to meet these four objectives every day. For all its collections.
IVN
The International Association of the Natural Textile Industry
Since its inception, the primary objective of the association is to highlight the importance of natural textiles. Raising awareness of environmental issues should encourage people to use natural textiles. The quality of organically produced textiles obviously plays an important role too, because quality is what counts!
The first step was to develop and enforce a quality standard, which covers environmental and social requirements in textile manufacturing and sets demanding criteria in terms of product quality. The textiles with the quality label NATURAL TEXTILE show that it is possible to produce textiles that are modern, high quality, environmentally friendly and socially acceptable.
The IVN has steadily expanded its remit since its inception. The IVN is constantly having to deal with new issues: CO2 balance, socially acceptable production, animal welfare and allergy potential.
GOTS
Global Organic Textile Standard
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised worldwide as a leading standard for the manufacture of textiles from organic fibres. It sets high environmental criteria, having regard to the entire value chain from bio-textiles to the compliance of social criteria. Only textile products with a minimum 70 per cent organic fibre content are GOTS certified. The use of all chemical additives, dyes, and agents has to meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria. The choice of accessories is also subject to environmental constraints. All wet manufacturing processes must comply with minimum social criteria.
IMO
The Institute for Market Ecology
The Institute for Market Ecology (IMO) is an internationally recognised, independent supervisory body. It certifies environmentally friendly products, organic farming and management systems. The IMO group includes subsidiaries and representatives in over 20 countries worldwide. 300 people in more than 70 countries monitor compliance with environmental and social guidelines for private and public labels and certificates.
In an increasingly complex global market, the IMO has indicated that it sees itself acting as a bridge between the links of the product chain and the consumers. This philosophy is consistent with the LANIUS brand message: Stylish fashion – not at any price, but with awareness for the environment and social standards.
THE DESIGNER
Claudia Lanius is the designer behind the brand. She works with her team in her Cologne fashion studio to develop the ideas that make up the LANIUS collections.
